Injured Salop man won’t be rushed back
Shrewsbury Town head coach Paul Hurst says Tom Flanagan is still a couple of weeks away from being back from a long-term knee injury.
The former Sunderland man injured his knee during Town’s 2-1 win against Port Vale at the end of November.
At first, it looked like a serious injury, with all parties fearing the worst, but scans revealed it was not as bad as first thought, and the centre-back is doing well with his rehab and is just a few weeks away from returning to action.

It feels strange to say that Shrewsbury Town have just two players out injured at the moment.
On so many occasions this season they have been hampered by injury problems – stretching the Town squad to the absolute limit.
But since Paul Hurst has taken over as the new Town head coach, with both squads he has picked, he has had to leave people out.

Paul Hurst’s Shrewsbury Town travel to the East Midlands this weekend to face Derby County.
In the reverse fixture in October of 2023, it was Shrewsbury who took the three points. Tom Bayliss’s header registered their first league win over the Rams since 1984 and the Shrews will be hoping to repeat this when they visit Pride Park on Saturday.
Derby County find themselves in 2nd place in the EFL League One table, after a goal from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing secured the three points for the Rams away at Charlton. This weekend Paul Warne’s men will be hoping to maintain this position by making it three league wins in a row.
