Sunderland could now be about to sign a ‘serious prospect’ from Premier League club

Sunderland have been told they could be about to sign a real ‘serious prospect’.

Sunderland have been heavily criticised in recent transfer windows for only trying to sign young, inexperienced players

The Black Cats have signed the likes of Luis Hemir, Eliezer Mayenda and Nectarios Triantis, while they have offloaded the older players to make way.

However, it has really backfired for them this season and they have lacked any real leadership, resulting in a dramatic fall down to the Championship table.

Sunderland will surely look to add some more experience to their ranks this term and have been challenged to finally find a proven goalscorer to fill the void left by Ross Stewart.

Divin Mubama is a ‘serious prospect’

Despite that, the Wearside outfit have been heavily linked with a Premier League youngster, but journalist Michael Graham believes it is still something to get excited about.

Reports have claimed Sunderland are frontrunners to sign West Ham striker Divin Mubama, who has turned down a new contract with the London club.

Graham wrote on X: “I don’t know if #SAFC links are legit, but Mubama a serious prospect. We’ve seen how hard it was for young players to break into the West Ham team with Ekwah and Alese, and Mubama got a lot closer than they did. If he is signed, though, he just shouldn’t be only striker signed.”

Sunderland shouldn’t let past disappointment assume the worst of Mubama

Mubama joined West Ham’s academy in 2013 and made his senior debut in a Europa Conference League win over FCSB. The teenager’s header was diverted in by an opposing player to give them a 2-0 lead.

Mubama went onto score his first goal in the same competition months later, while he was named their Mark Noble Young Hammer of the Year for the 2022-23 season.

He has now racked up 13 appearances for the first team but is looking to leave in search of a regular first-team football.

Sunderland fans will be desperate not to see a similar situation to last season with Hemir, Eliezer Mayenda and Mason Burstow.

However, Mubama already has some experience in the Premier League and West Ham were eager to keep him at the club.

He’s clearly highly-rated and could be a positive addition to the squad, but the need for another striker who is proven in the Championship will still be there.
