Major West Brom boost as Leicester City ‘hold talks’ with Burnley and Norwich City target

Leicester City’s manager search is heading in a different direction.

West Brom’s chances of keeping Carlos Corberan have increased after Leicester City reportedly spoke to a different manager.

The Foxes are on the lookout for a new manager after Enzo Maresca’s appointment at Chelsea was confirmed earlier this week. Leicester were disappointed Maresca was leaving after one year in charge and will now begin life in the Premier League under a different manager from the one that led them to a Championship title.

Baggies boss Corberan ranked highly on their list of contenders and was said to be a ‘priority’ amongst their shortlist. West Brom though are standing firm as they will demand between £3.5m and £4m for his services. New owner Shilen Patel has also provided a £1m investment in to the training ground which is said to have impressed Corberan.

According to talkSPORT, Leicester City have now turned their attention to former Nottingham Forest and Swansea City manager Steve Cooper. The Welshman has emerged as a ‘leading contender’ for the role and is said to have held initial talks about the vacancy at the King Power Arena.

Corberan’s compensation is a ‘stumbling block’ for Leicester according to the report and that is why they could turn to Cooper. The 44-year-old led Leicester’s East Midlands rivals Forest to promotion via the play-offs and then secured a 16th-placed finish in their first season back in the top-flight.

Cooper was sacked by Forest in December after winning just one of their last 13 games and departed the City Ground with the team in 17th, just outside the relegation zone. He was linked with jobs at Burnley and Norwich City but was reported to have rejected talks with the Championship clubs.
