Chesterfield Midfielder Bolsters Grantham Squad
Pitching In NPL East Division strugglers Grantham Town have signed Chesterfield midfielder Sam Hooper on loan until the end of the season.
Hooper signed a professional contract with the Spireites in the summer and spent the early part of the season at Northern Premier League outfit Matlock Town.
He made five competitive appearances for the Gladiators, starting once.
His arrival is a timely one for a Gingerbreads side currently sat a point adrift at the foot of the NPL East Division table.
Nevertheless, they have yet to lose a game in 2024 and were pegged back twice away at Bridlington Town on Saturday as the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Southend United learn lessons against league leaders Chesterfield
A POSITIVE week off the pitch for Southend United ended with defeat on it at Chesterfield on Saturday.
The Shrimpers had spells of possession and pressure against the runaway league leaders.
But the Spireites’ superior play in the final third ultimately led to them securing a somewhat flattering 3-0 victory at the SMH Group Stadium.
In doing so, it would be easy to suggest Chesterfield showed the standards needed to push for promotion from the National League.
However, Paul Cook’s side are way above the level required and are producing something incredibly special this season.
