Leicester City get double injury boost as five Leeds United players set to miss crucial clash

Leicester have already welcomed one player back from injury and are set to get another boost ahead of Friday’s meeting with Leeds.

Leicester City will have two key players available for Friday night’s Championship title showdown at Leeds United on Friday.

The Foxes are nine points ahead of Leeds and a win for the visitors would perhaps end Daniel Farke’s title hopes with 13 games left to play. A victory for the hosts, though, would open the race for the crown.

Ultimately, promotion back to the Premier League is the main goal. A defeat to Leicester would cede more ground to third-placed Southampton, who will jump back into second with a win over Hull City on Monday night. Leicester boss Enzo Maresca was given a double selection boost over the weekend ahead of the trip to Elland Road.

Marc Albrighton returned from injury when used as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, which was just their fifth loss of the league campaign.

Meanwhile, the attack force has been bolstered by Kelechi Iheanacho, who is set to play his first Leicester game since Nigeria finished runners-up in the Africa Cup of Nations final nine days ago.

The league leaders may still have a couple of names absent, though. Wilfred Ndidi is out with a long-term muscle injury while defender Ben Nelson is a doubt after picking up an issue a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, Leeds will be without Patrick Bamford, who is currently nursing a calf injury sustained during the warm-up ahead of this month’s 4-0 win over Swansea. The striker has scored four times in 22 Championship games this season.

“We expect him to be out not too long,” Farke said last week. “I don’t expect he’ll be back for the upcoming game against Leicester. It would be a nice positive surprise if he could.”

Sam Byram, Pascal Struijk and Stuart Dallas are also expected to miss the clash but Karl Darlow may make a return to the squad.
