Fresh update on Danny Rohl contract situation at Sheffield Wednesday ahead of UK return
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl returns to the UK this week, after spending time on holiday following the end of the season.
Rohl has been away with his family following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, which ended with Sheffield Wednesday beating the drop and finishing in 20th place of the Championship table.
Since, Rohl and his players have earned huge praise for their turnaround in the second tier, with the Owls now keen to extend Rohl’s stay at the club.
His current contract runs until the end of the 2024/25 season though owner Dejphon Chansiri has reportedly held talks with Rohl over the possibility of extending that deal.
The pair held talks earlier this month which were apparently positive. What’s more is that it’s since been revealed that Rohl has a compensation package in place at Hillsborough, worth up to £10million should another club poach him and his backroom team from S6.
Both Sunderland and Hull City have been linked with the German coach ahead of the summer.

Danny Rohl contract latest at Sheffield Wednesday
An emerging report from The Star has revealed that Rohl is due back in the country later this week where he’ll meet with Chansiri once again.
The same report adds that Rohl is ‘eager to stick around and take things to the next level’ at Sheffield Wednesday.
There’s no indication as to the length of the proposed contract that Chansiri wants Rohl to sign at Sheffield Wednesday.
Though expect it to be a long-term deal given his stunning turnaround with the club and the fact that several clubs have already earmarked him as a potential managerial candidate ahead of the summer.
Danny Rohl needs one thing before committing Sheffield Wednesday future
The Star’s report makes it clear that Rohl’s is willing to stay on at Sheffield Wednesday, which will be great news for Chansiri and of course the fans.
But, as has seemed the case for a long time now, Chansiri not only needs to put money on the table for Rohl, but for the club as well.
Rohl will want to see ambition from Chansiri before committing his future. He’ll likely want to know what he has to work with in the transfer market this summer, although Rohl may understand that this could be another summer where frees and loans are the focus.
That’s if Chansiri spends big on Rohl’s contract, and on the training ground improvements and on securing futures of some of the club’s out of contract players as well.
Either way, though, this summer is one that could hold a lot of potential for Sheffield Wednesday, who finally have a manager who they can build a team and a future around.
