49ers sign defensive lineman after rookie minicamp tryout
Shakel Brown, a UDFA from the 2023 draft class is the newest member of the 49ers.
The San Francisco 49ers added to their defensive line room Monday evening. Per Aaron Wilson, the Niners signed defensive lineman Shakel Brown after he tried out during rookie minicamp late last week. This comes on the heels of the team releasing Spencer Waege ahead of rookie minicamp.
Brown was waived by the Tennesee Titans on May 7. He spent all of 2023 on the injured reserve after suffering an injury in the preseason against the Chicago Bears. Brown was an undrafted free agent out of the University of Troy in 2023.
Brown appeared in 29 games, including five starts, over three seasons at Troy. He tallied 58 tackles, eight for loss, and 4.5 sacks. The 25-year-old is listed at 6’3, 295 pounds.
Brown figures to compete for one of the final roster spots or do enough to warrant the team keeping him on the practice squad—the latter being more likely.
