Philadelphia Eagles Announce Devastating News Prior To Week 18 Matchup Vs. New York Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles have been struggling as of late.  The team went 1-4 in the month of December and have fallen to second place in their division.  If the Dallas Cowboys defeat the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Dallas will take the division title.

Still, the Eagles hold an 11-5 record will be headed to the post-season.  Going into the playoffs you want as much momentum as possible, that’s why the Eagles regular season finale against the Giants can be extremely important.  However, heading into that matchup, the Eagles had some pretty rough news to announce.

The Philadelphia Eagles Announce Tough News Prior To Their Week 18 Matchup Against The New York Giants

In Sunday’s stunning loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the third-year wideout “suffered a mild ankle sprain” according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. According to Fowler, Smith’s injury isn’t “considered serious,” however, his status for Week 18 is most certainly in doubt.

Eagles fans were understandably concerned when they saw Smith leave Lincoln Financial Field on crutches and wearing a walking boot on his right leg. Fortunately, it appears that Alabama’s product may be able to play in the first round of the playoffs.

Following the Eagles’ loss to the Cardinals, the Eagles are unlikely to win the NFC East – the Cowboys must beat the Commanders next week to secure the title – and may have to settle for the No. 5 seed. That means no first round bye and no home-field advantage for the Eagles.

However, if Dallas somehow loses to Washington, the Eagles game against New York become massive.

Smith, one of the most talented playmakers on the team, had three receptions for 30 yards in the loss. The season thus far, Smith has 81 catches for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns.

Since the Eagles selected Smith in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, Smith has never missed a game. However, if he misses any time, the Eagles will need to replace Smith’s ability to make plays with A.J. Brown.
