Brighton 0-0 Ipswich: Fabian Hurzeler takes issue with inconsistent refereeing

Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Ipswich Town: Fabian Huerzeler reaction

Brighton boss Fabian Huerzeler says his team deserved to beat Ipswich Town yesterday – but praised the Blues for their committed defending.

The Seagulls, one of the Premier League’s in-form sides, could not find a way past Aro Muric and the Blues, despite dominating possession and having several big chances.

The 0-0 draw at the Amex sees Brighton remain unbeaten so far this season. They sit fourth in the early table, with eight points from four games.

Huerzeler told the Brighton Argus: “I think my team did everything on the pitch to win this game.

“We defended good, we had enough chances to score, we were good in counter-pressing, we were very dominant.

“That is why it feels disappointing but, in the end, I will never judge my team on the results.

“I will judge them by the performance.

“I think there are still things we can improve but we try to follow the process, we try to improve every day.”

Star forward Joao Pedro missed the game, having returned from international duty for Brazil with a slight injury niggle.

But the Brighton boss said that was no excuse.

“He had a small issue, we shouldn’t take any risks,” he explained of Pedro.

“He might have played but we would have risked an injury for two or three or four weeks.

“Of course we can say Joao was missing but we had enough chances without him.

“It’s a compliment to how they defended. They made it difficult for Mitoma and my wingers.”
