Paul Merson makes big statement about West Ham ahead of Brentford clash – ‘I’d be shocked’

Paul Merson has made a really big call ahead of the Brentford vs West Ham United clash on Saturday.

West Ham travel to West London to take on Brentford in the Premier League tomorrow afternoon, where a positive performance and result will be a matter of necessity for Julen Lopetegui.

And Paul Merson has suggested that he’ll be shocked’ if something very specific doesn’t happen.

Things are looking bleak at the London Stadium right now, and we desperately need something positive to happen against Brentford.

West Ham: Merson predicts Brentford clash in Moyes sack verdict

West Ham have already been dealt a blow with the news that we have a Simon Hooper and David Coote double act in charge of officiating our game against the Bees.

However, Thomas Frank has some issues of his own as well.

Brentford could be without as many as eight key players for the Hammers clash, so the door is certainly wide open for us.

But what does Merson think the outcome will be?

The outcome of game this weekend will have huge consequences for the Hammers’ hopes of achieving a top seven finish in the table.

West Ham: Merson predicts Brentford clash in Moyes sack verdict

I am hoping to see a very big reaction from the players against Brentford.

However, Paul Merson is expecting quite the opposite it seems.

The famous football pundit wrote his regular column for Sportskeeda, and predicted the outcome of the London derby.

He said he’d be shocked if West Ham don’t lose…wow!

Merson explained, I tell you what, West Ham are in big trouble! I always say be careful of what you wish for. They got rid of David Moyes after he won them a European trophy and now the new manager is struggling.

They’re up against Brentford next and I’d be shocked if they don’t lose this game, he continued. I don’t see a lot between these teams on paper, but the way they’re playing at the moment, there’s certainly a huge gap.

Julen Lopetegui has to get a positive result in the next few games. West Ham fans won’t be happy with what they’ve seen so far this season. In terms of the talent they have in that team, it’s one of their best sides ever. But they are not gelling together on the pitch and the manager still hasn’t figured out his best XI.

Everyone will expect West Ham to turn up and win, so this is a really difficult game for them due to the added pressure and worrying form.

Prediction: Brentford 1-0 West Ham

See, I’m not sure about this one. I get that we’ve been poor, but I really think the players have a big point to prove.

Time for West Ham players to stand up and be counted

The vast majority of Hammers players have let down Lopetegui and the fans so far this season.

It’s now time for them to stand up and be counted.

I want to see huge improvements from our big players. Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus all need to do better.

Meanwhile, the likes of Carlos Soler, Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo and Crysencio Summerville have to be properly integrated into the team by Lopetegui.

It’s a big month ahead for the Hammers, with tough games to come against the likes of Brentford, Tottenham and Manchester United.

A win against the Bees would be a great way for Lopetegui and his players to kick things into life this season.

And I reckon we could well pick up the three points.

Unlike Paul Merson, I’m backing West Ham to beat Brentford tomorrow.
