There were two changes from the Leeds game, and both were enforced. Ben Nelson was selected to come in for the suspended Jannik Vestergaard, while Dennis Praet replaced the injured Ricardo Pereira, albeit the Belgian himself hobbled off just 15 minutes in, with Yunus Akgun taking over.

City, knowing they could go at least eight points clear of third after Leeds drew to Huddersfield in the early kick-off, made a bright enough start. Patson Daka, retained up front, drew a parry from Asmir Begovic with a deflected shot five minutes in.

But bar a Harry Winks long-range effort past the post, and a low Yunus ball that nearly found Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for a tap-in, there wasn’t much threat to City’s domination of the ball. It was a little flat.
