Tennessee Titans schedule 2024: Takeaways, predictions

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans’ 2024 schedule was released along with the rest of the NFL slate on Wednesday.

Titans fans will get to see Tennessee coach Brian Callahan’s new-look offense in person for the first time when the team takes the field at Nissan Stadium in Week 2 against the Jets. Key free agent additions including Calvin Ridley, Lloyd Cushenberry, and Chidobe Awuzie will make their debut as well.

Callahan was the offensive coordinator in Cincinnati from 2019 to 2023. He brought Awuzie and receiver Tyler Boyd with him via free agency. The trio will get to face their former team when the Bengals come to Nashville in Week 15.

Biggest takeaway

The Titans have one prime-time game — a Monday Night game at Miami in Week 4. It’s a sign of their steady decline over the last two seasons, each of which concluded with a losing record. Tennessee won’t play on Monday Night Football for the first time since 2019. There isn’t much star power on the Titans after the team fired coach Mike Vrabel and Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry signed a free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Second-year quarterback Will Levis could emerge as a marquee name with the help of Callahan and the roster improvements made by general manager Ran Carthon to build the team around him. Levis threw for 1,808 yards

with eight touchdowns and four interceptions in nine starts before an ankle injury in Week 15 landed him on injured reserve. With the AFC East on the docket this season, Levis will face three of the top 10 passing defenses in yards allowed when up against the Jets, Bills, and Patriots.

The Titans rivalry with the Texans goes beyond just the AFC South tug-of-war: The Texans feel they have a legitimate claim on the iconic “Love Ya Blue” Houston Oilers jerseys even though the Oilers relocated to Tennessee and eventually became the Titans. The NFL allowed teams to wear alternate throwback jerseys last season, and the Titans decided to wear the old Oilers jerseys in their Week 15 against the Texans — a decision some felt was petty towards Houston. Tennessee suffered a 19-16 home loss, prompting former Houston defensive lineman J.J. Watt to add to the fire.

“We get the uniforms back,” Watt said. “That’s how this works, I don’t make the rules. Sorry, not sorry. Too bad, so sad.”

It would be sweet revenge for the Titans if they break out the throwback jerseys once again when they host the Texans in Week 18.
