Alabama fans react to new head coach after official announcement
Since his announcement as the new head coach for the Crimson Tide, Kalen Deboer is the talk for Alabama fans of all ages. While it’s no secret he has big shoes to fill, several say overall they’re optimistic for the future.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Since his announcement as the new head coach for the Crimson Tide, Kalen Deboer is the talk for Alabama fans of all ages. While it’s no secret he has big shoes to fill, several say overall they’re optimistic for the future.
“Long as he carries on the Bama tradition that’s all we can ask for,” said Randy Fondren, a lifelong Alabama fan.
It’s a tall order, but so far several Bama fans say they’re optimistic to see DeBoer carry on the Crimson Tide legacy.
“I think he’s going to do real good. He’s from Indiana University, he was offensive coordinator, he’s going to do a good job at Alabama, a very good job,” said Fredrick Woolsey, an Alabama fan visiting Tuscaloosa from Indiana.
Several fans are taking note of DeBoer’s strong track record.
“Of course he went and played in the national championship this year which we thought we should’ve been there,” Fondren said.
His stats from his most recent position as coach of the Washington Huskies are impressing several.
“When he arrived at Washington, they were 4-8 and he turned that team into a playoff contender in two years. If he can do that with Washington, I’m very optimistic he can do that here,” said fan Logan Shumock.
In his first season in 2022 with the Huskies, his record 11-2 was I think the most any first year head coach had gotten for the Huskies, so it makes me hopeful,” said University of Alabama junior Blake Eversmann.
It’s no secret former coach Nick Saban has left big shoes to fill, but for Several Alabama fans of all ages, DeBoer is showing he’s got the right stuff to lead their team on to victory.
“We have been through this before with coach Bryant and when Coach Stallings left. Yeah we hate to lose him, but from all indications I’ve seen, Coach DeBoer has a good record and is working really hard and we’re looking forward to see If he can move this on forward,” Fondren said.
DeBoer has said that Saban will have 100% access to everything the team does under his new leadership.
