Aston Villa fans are now in agreement with Douglas Luiz verdict after Europa Conference League defeat
Aston Villa fans are in agreement about Douglas Luiz’s performance in the 4-2 Europa Conference League defeat to Olympiacos.
Villa Park hosted its biggest game for years on Thursday night as they faced Greek side Olympiacos in a European semi-final.
Unai Emery’s side came into the match in sensational form and were very much the favourites to progress through to the Europa Conference League final.
However, on the night, it couldn’t have gone any worse. The visitors were 2-0 up in the first half before goals from Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby levelled the score on the day once again.
Despite the comeback, Olympiacos managed to restore their two-goal advantage to put Villa’s hopes of lifting the trophy in serious doubt.
One of the worst performers on the night was Douglas Luiz who not only conceded a penalty but also missed one late on which would have made the score 4-3.
In the aftermath of the match, many Villa fans took to social media to express their frustration with the midfielder.
Douglas Luiz ‘needs to be dropped’ after Olympiacos defeat
Douglas Luiz hasn’t had the best few weeks. The midfielder recently served a suspension in the Premier League due to exceeding the yellow card limit.
Now, upon returning to the squad at a crucial time in the season, the midfielder wasn’t able to perform when his club needed him.
After conceding a penalty for handball in the second half, the Brazilian attempted to redeem himself by taking a crucial late spot-kick. However, he wasn’t able to direct his shot on target which helped confound a miserable night for the 25-year-old.
After the match, multiple Villa fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their anger about his ‘shocking’ display.
