Doug Pederson Speaks Before Week 3 of OTAs | Press Conference | Jacksonville Jaguars

Mac Jones Acting Like a Different Person at Jaguars’ Practices

The former Patriots quarterback appears excited to be playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New England Patriots officially cut ties with Mac Jones in March, trading the former first-round pick and starting quarterback to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick.

The writing was on the wall for Jones, who was benched multiple times this past season for Bailey Zappe, who started in the final six games for New England. The former Patriots will look to turn his career around with Jacksonville as he gets to learn from head coach Doug Pederson and work with Trevor Lawrence.

The first step for Jones to change the narrative about him and his career must happen in OTAs and mandatory minicamp, which is underway for Jacksonville. The former first-round pick is already enjoying his new surroundings as he was seen smiling and having fun during a ball protection drill on Monday.

Jones, who is still wearing the No. 10 jersey, got through the drill with ease and afterward did a dance, which is what we didn’t see much with the Pats.

Now granted, it’s only a drill and not real game action. But the former Alabama quarterback is playing with a newfound joy. Unlike his time with the Patriots, Jones will not be asked to start in Jacksonville, which is perfect for him to refine his game.

The Jaguars did not pick up Jones’ fifth-year option in April, which means that the Jacksonville native is playing for a new contract in his current situation or elsewhere in the league for a team that might be looking for a starter in 2025.
