Leicester City facing transfer reality ahead of PSR ‘deadline day’ as claim made

Latest Leicester City transfer news from LeicestershireLive as new report says Foxes are one of six Premier League clubs under pressure to sell to avoid sanction

Leicester City are one of six Premier League clubs who have reportedly been told they will have to sell players before the end of June to comply with profit and sustainability rules, according to Sky Sports News.

They say Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Everton and the newly promoted Foxes are the clubs in question. Failure to comply could see them hit with points deductions next season, similar to those inflicted on Everton and Forest last term.

The Foxes are already facing the prospect of a points penalty before they even re-enter the top-flight for breaching player spending rules the last time they were in the Premier League. The latest claim suggests selling players is crucial to avoid even greater sanctions.

The Sky report says: “Chelsea Aston Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester are all under the pressure of losing a key asset or two before the change over to the financial year.

“The magic sum that each club needs to recoup is a closely guarded secret, but the situation they find themselves in is leading towards a mini transfer deadline day on June 30.”

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has long been touted for a summer move given his huge value to the Foxes as a homegrown player who would generate almost pure profit if sold. Other options include goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, but a KDH deal would be most lucrative – and he is a player in demand.

Although the club’s player of their title-winning season has vowed to remain at the King Power Stadium, financial reality may see City forced to cash in on an asset that could realise up to £40m, although rivals will no doubt drive a hard bargain if they know the Foxes are under pressure to complete a quick sale.

Brighton and Manchester United are said to be KDH’s leading suitors, according to the latest transfer odds being offered by Sky Bet , but Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked.

It is just another factor likely to make it harder for the Foxes to persuade a top-ranked candidate to take over from Enzo Maresca after the Italian quits as head coach to move to Chelsea at the start of the week.
