Leeds United are ready to sell shock £7m player this summer if they don’t win the play-offs

Leeds United face the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final with Norwich City tonight.

The Whites will be looking to make use of home advantage after coming away from the return fixture on Sunday with a respectable 0-0 draw, in a dour affair.

Having missed out on automatic promotion late in the season, it is now make or break for Leeds‘ chances of an immediate return to the Premier League.

Defeat tonight would consign Leeds to another season of Championship football, while a victory would move them to within 90 minutes of a place in next year’s top-flight.

Leeds have failed to be promoted in any of their five play-off campaigns during their history but that will need to change if they want to avoid an uncertain summer.

Leeds will look to ‘move on’ Patrick Bamford if they fail to win promotion

49ers Enterprises have already acknowledged behind-the-scenes that key players would have to be sold if they do not get promoted this season.

Leeds are confident loanees Jack Harrison, Max Wober, Marc Roca and Diego Llorente can be moved on permanently, but that would still not be enough.

Parachute payments are reduced from 55 per cent to 45 per cent in the second year after relegation, while the EFL’s PSR rules are considerably tighter than the Premier League’s. Leeds also have £190 million in unpaid transfer instalments.

A difficult summer would be on the cards if Leeds do stay in the Championship and an article from the Daily Mail has gone into detail on how it could look.

The report states Leeds will need to raise £100 million in sales to ‘offset continued operating losses’, and one player from the current squad who could be moved on is Patrick Bamford.

Bamford has been at Leeds for six years now following his £7 million arrival from Middlesbrough in 2018, but this summer could be the time the club actively try to sell him.
