Manager tipped to interest Sunderland has already ‘turned down’ Championship club

A manager tipped to interest Sunderland has now turned down a job in the Championship.

Sunderland are already three months into the search for a new manager, having sacked Michael Beale back in February.

Mike Dodds‘ tenure as interim coach was brought to an end when the season earlier this month, but it appears the club are still a distance away from appointing a permanent successor.

The Black Cats have long been linked with a move for Will Still and it seems like he remains a favourite after it was confirmed that he was leaving Reims.

However, Sunderland have also been linked with a host of other names including Danny Rohl and Rene Maric, while former Mainz coach Bo Svensson has recently emerged as a ‘shock candidate’.

While not strongly linked, Liam Rosenior has been another name on many fans’ lips since his shock sacking from Hull City last week.

The 39-year-old was dismissed after missing out on the play-offs and has already attracted interest from the EFL.

It didn’t take long before Plymouth Argyle made a move to snap Rosenior up, having sacked Ian Foster last month.

However, journalist Alan Nixon has now reported that Rosenior has rejected the Pilgrims.

He wrote on his Patreon: “Liam Rosenior has turned down a quick managerial return with Plymouth Argyle.

The Green Army contacted Rosenior with a quick reaction to his sacking at Hull City but he has turned down the chance.

“Rosenior has attracted other interest since the surprise departure from the Tigers and Argyle have scored his name of their wanted list.”

Are Sunderland interested in the former Hull coach?

Liam Rosenior hasn’t been mentioned too much on Wearside, but he appears to be a name that many fans would be interested in.

Following his exit from Hull, journalist Scott Wilson said on We Are Sunderland’s YouTube channel: “Liam Rosenior is someone Sunderland wouldn’t have that would be realistically available this summer and suddenly he is. Sunderland are already down the line in the process, but Liam Rosenior should be someone on Sunderland’s radar.”

The coach arguably did a very solid job in Yorkshire and was unfairly sacked, so it would be hugely surprising if he wasn’t snapped up by another play-off contender.

Sunderland may have looked further into appointing him if they weren’t already months into their search, which could perhaps be a good sign that they already know who they want.
