Liam Rosenior’s departure on Tuesday has ensured what many expected to be a quiet week at the MKM Stadium has turned into a busy one.

Few outside the MKM Stadium knew what was coming when Hull City’s season ended with that 1-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon, and that it would prove to be Rosenior’s final game in charge.

One of the tasks expected to be completed in the days following the regular season ending was the retained list being confirmed to players and supporters. Rosenior had planned to have meetings with members of his first team squad to discuss their futures.

Given the Tigers were firmly in the play-off mix going into the last day, prolonged discussions over players’ futures had not taken place, though Rosenior was acutely aware of who was staying and who was going.

Under the rules set out by the FA, City must inform those players out of contract of their future by May 18 which is next Saturday, so time is of the essence, with the club expecting to be in a position to confirm those first team and academy players moving on next week, by which point, they hope to have a new manager in charge.

In fairness, there aren’t a huge amount of decisions to be made by the incoming manager, but they’re tough decisions nonetheless.

Aaron Connolly

The eight-goal striker penned a one-year deal last summer and started the season in terrific fashion with a brace to see City come from behind to win at Blackburn, but since the clash with Norwich in January which saw him pick up a nasty injury, he hasn’t been the same player and is expected to move on, especially now Rosenior has gone.

Cyrus Christie

A regular earlier in his City career, the experienced right-back has played just 37 minutes since New Year’s Day and though his two-year contract coming to an end, City do have the option of extending it by a further 12 months.

Greg Docherty

The popular Scot was crucial in helping City win promotion from League One three years ago and while he was viewed as a hugely important member of the squad, Docherty was limited to cameo roles off the bench. His option year was activated 12 months ago but it’s expected the 27-year-old will move on in search of regular football this summer.
