His form has earned him a place in the provisional England squad for Euro 2024 with Gordon a contender to start on the left of the Three Lions’ attack. He will be back on home soil on Monday night when Gareth Southgate’s men take on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ahead of the match Gordon, and several of his teammates, were asked about the best atmosphere they have played in and the ex-Everton man spoke very highly of Anfield.

Speaking to Channel 4’s TikTok channel, he said: “Other than St. James, it’s Anfield by far. I think because I am from the city, I grew up watching it. I just think before the game, when they sing You’ll Never Walk Alone, it’s top. It is top level.”

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool is considering a move for Gordon this summer, despite him only joining Newcastle 18 months ago. Eddie Howe is desperate to keep him but the report states he may have to cash in on one of his prized assets to fund summer spending.

It is claimed Liverpool would have to pay close to $127m (£100m/€117m) to sign Gordon, who actually started out at the club’s academy before joining Merseyside rivals Everton.

He wasn’t the only England player to hail the Liverpool support with Declan Rice, Kieran Trippier and Conor Gallagher all agreeing with the Newcastle man

Chelsea midfielder Gallagher added: “I think Anfield has got to be up there. It is a pretty special atmosphere. When they sing their song before the game, it gives me goosebumps and gets me ready for the game.”

Liverpool.com says: Gordon is right to hail the Liverpool atmosphere, having experienced Merseyside derbies with Everton and also Newcastle’s defeat back in January. He would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool attack and would add plenty of productivity but Newcastle’s valuation means a deal is unlikely.
