OFFICIAL: Ohio State Hires Chip Kelly As Next Offensive Coordinator

The search for Bill O’Brien’s came to a quick resolution. On Friday, Chip Kelly was named the next offensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes, replacing O’Brien after just three weeks on the job. The hire comes just hours after O’Brien left the Buckeyes and accepted the head coaching job with the Boston College Eagles on Friday morning.

Like O’Brien, Kelly will be expected to take over playcalling duties from Day, who will be giving that responsibility up for the first time in his head coaching career. were also both on the New Hampshire staff in 2002, with Day as tight ends coach and Kelly as offensive coordiantor. Flash forward to 2015 and the two were once again coaching together, this time with the Day serving as the Eagles QB coach under Kelly. One year later, Kelly took over as the head coach of the 49ers, with Day following him – once again as the QB coach.
