The 46-year-old revealed his long-standing dream this past week on X (formerly known as Twitter) following a fan suggesting he should experience what an away day alongside fans of the League Two consists of.

The Always Sunny star is a regular attendee of matches at the club’s home stadium, The Racecourse Ground, alongside fellow owner Ryan Reynolds.

One fan on X quoted Alan Shearer’s post of the Newcastle legend enjoying a game from the Toon’s away end for the first time since 1985 which caused to write a message to both McElhenney and Reynolds.

“You should defo do an away end some day @RMcElhenney @VancityReynolds @thehumphreyker,” the supporter wrote. “Totally get Shaun will advise against it on grounds of safety. Shearer just went in the toon end and survived. It’s all good. What’s the worst that can happen? Being overwhelmed by love!”

The Philadelphia native replied: “There is nothing I want more than to experience a game in that end. I think about it all the time.” This caused Wrexham fans to urge their owner to realise his dream with one fan promising total protection of him: “Just do it, you’ll be the safest man in the stadium, trust me not one person would let any harm come to you, your one of us”.

Another fan said McElhenney will be “hooked” to the away day experience as they wrote: “moments that will last a lifetime have been created at away games, once you go to one game in the away end you’ll be hooked from the first kick of the ball” while a third commented: “Do it, it’ll be fine. I’ll look after you”.

One group of away fans that didn’t have the best times are the supporters that travelled to Salford on Saturday (February 3) as Phil Parkinson’s side were bested 3-1 for their second consecutive defeat.

It was Gary Neville and the rest of his Class of 92′ team-mates who had the last laugh but ex-Swansea City star Lee Trundle warned the Hollywood duo to learn from the mistakes of the Salford project

He said: “They were all ex-Man Utd players and it’s been an unbelievable project, even if it has slowed down a bit over the last couple of years. I think the Salford story was a good one, but Wrexham bring in a much bigger audience.

“I’d imagine Rob and Ryan will be leaning on people with lots of experience in football to prevent them from making any big mistakes.”
