Yankees Tried To Acquire Superstar In Blockbuster Trade But Came Up Short.
The New York Yankees attempted to complete their second blockbuster trade of the offseason. New York started the offseason off with a bang by landing superstar slugger Juan Soto in a trade with the San Diego Padres. The Yankees have made a handful of moves ever since but still have been looking for ways to improve the starting rotation. The Yankees offered two-time Cy Young
Award winner Blake Snell but seem to have closed the door on a possible move. New York also has been linked to multiple possible trade candidates.
The player who popped up the most was former Milwaukee Brewers star Corbin Burnes. He seemed like a real option but recently was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. Although New York didn’t get a deal done, it isn’t from a lack of trying, according to SNY’s Andy Martino. “They were, they did try to get Corbin Burnes,” Martino said. “They were disappointed that they didn’t but I don’t have the players or the trade package that was discussed. I wish I could tell you that. But I do know that the Yankees felt like ‘Woah that is too much’
and the next thing they knew he was a Baltimore Oriole and they didn’t get too far down the tracks. Unfortunate for the Yankees.” Burnes would’ve been the perfect pickup for New York. He is one of the best hurlers in baseball and would’ve given the Yankees arguably the best one-two punch in baseball with Gerrit Cole.
