Three League One-ready strikers Phil Parkinson can sign to partner Paul Mullin at Wrexham

A new striker to partner Paul Mullin is firmly on Wrexham’s agenda this summer, and there are several who Phil Parkinson should be looking at.

Wrexham can be proud of what they’ve achieved after reaching League One for the first time in almost two decades but Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds don’t plan on stopping just there.

The Hollywood owners want to propel the Reds into the Championship at the first time of asking. In doing so, they’d become the only side in England’s top five leagues to achieve three consecutive promotions.

To achieve a piece of history, signing a goalscorer to partner Paul Mullin could be imperative as the Liverpudlian needs a new partner.

Wrexham currently have Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher as realistic options to partner the 29-year-old next term however, Parkinson could look at someone younger to play alongside Mullin.

Here are three strikers Wrexham could sign this summer…

Stephen Humphrys

Reports have already linked Wrexham to departing Wigan Athletic striker Stephen Humphrys alongside teammates Tom Pearce and Josh Magennis.

Humphrys, who scored nine goals in 38 League One appearances last term, could be the ideal partner for Mullin.

Whilst he isn’t the most clinical, his physical attributes match the exact profile of striker Parkinson is chasing, with his aerial ability, link-up play and strength all handy assets to have.

Mullin thrives when his partner sacrifices his goal-scoring record for the greater of the team. Fletcher and Palmer did exactly that when selected alongside the Liverpudlian and Humphrys could do a similar job.

At the age of 26, the “incredible” striker has his best years ahead of him and could be a handy pick-up on a free transfer.

Devante Cole

There are three guarantees in life; death, taxes and Devante Cole scoring goals in League One.

During his last two campaigns for Barnsley, the 29-year-old has netted a combined 33 goals, including 18 last term as the Tykes finished in the play-offs.

A product of Manchester City’s academy, Cole could be the perfect striker to play alongside Mullin.

He’s a powerhouse when in possession and his piercing movement in behind would open space for his partner to thrive.

Crucially, he combines his physical strength and pace with an appetite for scoring goals and as Wrexham crave a League One proven striker, signing Cole on a free transfer feels like a no-brainer.

Tyrese Campbell

Tyrese Campbell is another striker recently released from his club.

Following 164 appearances for Stoke City across an eight-year association, the Potters decided to part ways with the striker who is now available to sign on a free transfer.

Unlike Humphrys and Cole – who are known for their physical prowess – Campbell is a poacher-type striker, boasting bags of pace to run in behind defences.

Wrexham currently lack pace in the final third and having the 24-year-old at their disposal could be a useful weapon to unleash alongside Mullin.

The only downside to Campbell is a terrible injury record, though he did end a tortuous campaign on a personal level with strikes against Southampton and Bristol City.

Although his record of 36 goals in 164 appearances is hardly convincing, it’s his work rate off the ball that could truly take Mullin to even greater heights.
