Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Easton Cowan Sets Franchise Record

While the Toronto Maple Leafs have rattled off their longest winning streak in 20 years by stringing seven victories in row together, their top prospect is also putting his name in record books.

Easton Cowan, who was the Toronto Maple Leafs first round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft scored his 29th goal of the season Saturday afternoon in Ottawa which not only gave the London Knights a two goal lead at the time, but it also extended his point streak to 26 games dating back to late November.

With the streak being extended to 26-games, he now holds the longest streak in London Knights history since it started being tracked in 1997-98.

Cowan’s name now sits ahead of NHL greats such as Nazem Kadri, Mitch Marner, Max Domi and Patrick Kane.

The Toronto Maple Leafs used the 28th overall pick this past draft to select the Mount Brydges native and the decision seemed be somewhat of a surprise as most mock drafts had Cowan as a mid to late second round selection at best.

Despite not initially being highly thought of by fans, Cowan has made management look like geniuses as he came into Maple Leafs camp with an edge and looked great in the pre-season which led to him sticking around for the majority of try-outs.

Because of the extended look with the NHL club, Cowan missed the opening of the Ontario Hockey League season, but started out on fire was he returend to his junior club with nine points in his first four games back with the Knights.

Cowan would later be chosen to play for the Under-20 Team Canada World Juniors team where he collected a goal and an assist in five games. Overall throughout the OHL season, Cowan has recorded points in all but five games this year recording a total of 77-points in 44 games and currently sits 14 points behind the leading scorer (David Goyette) despite playing 11 less games.
