Yankees Have Offered Contract To Superstar; Could Signing Be On Way?
The New York Yankees already have shocked the baseball world once this offseason, could they do it again? New York landed one of the best players in baseball by completing a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres for superstar slugger Juan Soto. The Yankees also have been busy improving other areas of the club as well. The Yankees look like a much different team already than they did at the end of the 2023 season. New York already should be considered among the best teams in the American League, but landing another starting pitcher would go a long way.
New York could use at least one more starter to give the club more depth and options. If the Yankees could land another star instead of a mid-tier option, it would just help the club even more. The Yankees have been linked on multiple occasions to the 2023 National League Cy Young Award Blake Snell who remains available in free agency. While the Yankees haven’t gotten a deal done to this point, they surprisingly are the only team that actually has formally offered him a contract, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsan
“The Yankees reportedly offered Snell a six-year, $150 million contract, but the reigning NL Cy Young winner turned it down, wanting either a higher average annual value – a deal worth at least $30 million per year – or a longer contract,” Feinsand said. “New York’s offer is the only actual offer that has been extended to Snell, according to a source, though a number of teams have expressed interest in the lefty. “Many believe Snell is seeking a deal worth more than $200 million after winning his second Cy Young Award, a figure that hasn’t been
out there to this point in the offseason. It remains to be seen whether the Yankees – who have since added Marcus Stroman to their rotation – will take another crack at Snell, but the (Los Angeles Angels) and (San Francisco Giants) could also get into the mix for the 31-year-old.”
