Rangers sign Crismatt to minor league deal
The Texas Rangers have signed reliever Nabil Crismatt to a minor league contract
The Texas Rangers have signed righthanded relief pitcher Nabil Crismatt to a minor league deal, per reports from the beats. Crismatt is joining the AAA Round Rock Express roster.
The 29 year old Crismatt is a depth signing who has the potential to help the beleaguered Rangers bullpen at some point. Originally signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent out of Colombia, Crismatt made it to the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2020. Released after the season, he spent the next two and a half years with the San Diego Padres before being released in 2023, then finishing out the season in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
Crismatt started the 2024 season in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, and was twice called up and then designated for assignment when the Dodgers needed extra arms. Crismatt has a 2.57 ERA in seven innings in the major leagues this season, and a 5.68 ERA in 12.2 innings for Oklahoma City.
Crismatt had a nice run with the Padres in 2021-22, putting up a 3.39 ERA and a 3.76 FIP in 148 innings over 95 games for San Diego in that period. He had a bad 2023 season, getting rocked in both AAA and the majors, but he has been okay overall in 2024, and is certainly worthy of getting a look in Round Rock. I would not be surprised to see him on the major league team in the near future.
