Enmanuel Valdez smashes two home runs as the Boston Red Sox defeat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 while sporting their City Connect uniforms
Enmanuel Valdez hit two home runs for the first time in his career and drove in three runs to help the Boston Red Sox defeat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 on Saturday.
The Red Sox have had success wearing their City Connect uniforms, with bright yellow jerseys and powder blue lettering, since they were introduced in 2021. They now have a record of 32-9 while wearing these uniforms, including a 17-5 record in the past two years.
In the sixth inning, Boston center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela made an impressive diving catch in the right-center gap, turning it into a double play by throwing to second base to double up Matt Vierling.
Pitcher Cooper Criswell described the catch as special, noting the reaction from the players in the dugout.
Gio Urshela hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Boston’s lead.
Javier Báez made a highlight play for the Tigers in the eighth inning, diving to snag a grounder before throwing to first base. Valdez’s impressive performance came a day after Rafaela also hit two home runs in Boston’s previous victory.
The Red Sox scored single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead after the Tigers initially took the lead with an RBI single in the first inning.
Valdez hit a home run in the second inning to tie the game and added a two-run shot in the sixth inning to extend Boston’s lead.
Speaking through a team translator, Valdez expressed his satisfaction with hitting a home run around the Pesky Pole, especially after hitting the ball hard consistently.
