Exeter City’s Level Playing Field match to be dedicated to Alzheimer’s Society

The match will be dedicated to raising awareness of Alzheimer’s Society and the work they do

Exeter City’s home match with Fleetwood Town on Saturday will be dedicated to Alzheimer’s Society. This is part of the club’s Level Playing Field fixture, which aims to promote good access and inclusion at sports venues.

This year, the club’s Disabled Supporters’ Association is focusing on ‘hidden’ illnesses and disabilities, supporting the Alzheimer’s Society’s mission to research the disease and help those living with it.

The Level Playing Field branding will be a big part of the match. Players will wear campaign t-shirts and there will be lots of social media content to raise awareness about the campaign.

The Alzheimer’s Society will also be present in the fan zone and around the ground. Their volunteers will be there to talk about their work and any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Currently, around 900,000 people in the UK have dementia. By 2025, this number is expected to rise to over one million and by 2040, up to 1.6 million. Dementia is most common in those over 65 years old but can also affect younger people. In October 2023, the NHS in Devon estimated that there are 20,374 people with a dementia diagnosis in the county.

Claire Frost, a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society, has praised Exeter City Football Club for their efforts to raise money and awareness for the charity. She said: “It’s wonderful that everyone at Exeter City Football Club is giving their support to Alzheimer’s Society. Every pound that is donated on 24 February, and the work being done to raise awareness of dementia, will make a life-changing difference to people affected by the condition.
