A few years ago, the Las Vegas Raiders made a controversial move in the 2021 NFL Draft, with the storied franchise selecting offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood with the 17th overall pick in order to add some protection up front for then-starting quarterback Derek Carr.

Unfortunately for Las Vegas, the move backfired in the worst way, as Leatherwood struggled right out of the gate and never panned out for the Raiders, leading to the team surprisingly cutting the former Alabama Crimson Tide product.

After the Raiders parted ways with Leatherwood in 2022, the former first-round draft pick bounced around the league a bit, as he landed with the Chicago Bears briefly and then signed with the Cleveland Browns to be on the team’s practice squad.

With the trend continuing, Leatherwood’s time in Cleveland was short-lived, which has now led him to sign with one of the Raiders’ bitter division rivals in the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

At this point in time, Leatherwood is just looking for another chance to prove himself for an NFL team because his career has been headed in the wrong direction for quite some time now, as many have labeled him a first-round draft bust.

Although Leatherwood has a lot to prove in order to make the final roster in Los Angeles, playing for new Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh might be exactly what he needs to live up to his potential on the NFL level because if this doesn’t work, he might be done for good as a professional in the league.
