Potential return date for Sunderland star Jack Clarke revealed ahead of Norwich clash

Sunderland have suffered an injury blow ahead of their trip to Norwich City this weekend.

Sunderland will be desperate to return to winning ways this weekend after enduring three consecutive defeats in the Championship, leaving them eight points adrift from the playoff spots.

The Black Cats have a tough run rapidly approaching though, starting with their visit to Carrow Road before hosting Leicester City midweek, then ending with a trip to Southampton next weekend.

Mike Dodds‘ side will need their very best team out if they are claim vital points against all three teams, though that certainly isn’t going to be the case.

Jack Clarke was absent for the defeat to Swansea City last time out after suffering an ankle ligament injury against Birmingham City. However, a report had claimed the club were ‘hopeful’ that it wasn’t as bad as first feared and he could actually make his comeback against Norwich.

This looks to be false though, with The Northern Echo now reporting that Clarke is likely to miss Norwich and Leicester, while he is expected to be a ‘major doubt’ for the visit to St Mary’s Stadium too.

This could potentially see him return in time for Sunderland’s clash with QPR next month ahead of the international break.

It is a massive blow for Sunderland, who will need all the help they can get over the next few weeks.

How to beat Norwich City

The Black Cats’ attack have looked far from the quality that graced them last season, while they have been heavily relying on the goals of Jack Clarke to keep them in contention for the playoffs.

The ‘unplayable’ winger’s absence gives Romaine Mundle a chance to shine though, despite being left out against Swansea.

The 20-year-old looked very promising in his first start against the Blues and really looks the most likely to make a positive impact in an attempt to fill Clarke’s boots.
