White Sox Trade Away Pitcher After Getting Swept

The 29-year-old Cousins had a tremendous Spring Training with the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox have already made a change to their roster after getting swept in three games by the Detroit Tigers to open the 2024 regular season. Many fans coming into this year knew that the White Sox weren’t going to be good, but getting swept by the Tigers could be a sign of things to come.

The White Sox announced on Sunday night that they traded right-handed pitcher Jake Cousins to the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations.

The 29-year-old relief pitcher didn’t make the big league roster despite having an outstanding Spring Training, where he posted a 1.29 ERA in seven appearances. Cousins only allowed five hits, four runs (one earned run), two walks, and struck 11 hitters across seven innings.

Cousins signed a minor league deal in the offseason with the White Sox after spending the last three years in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Last season, the right-handed reliever made nine appearances with the big league club, producing a 4.82 ERA.

However, the 29-year-old relief pitcher spent most of the 2023 campaign in the minors, playing at Triple-A Sugar Land (Astros’ affiliate), Triple-A Nashville (Brewers’ affiliate), and the ACL Brewers.

Cousins will likely start the 2024 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as the Yankees assigned him there, according to the league’s transactions page.
