The Cleveland Browns have several linebackers that are set to become free agents, but also have to decide whether to extend one of their ascending players.
BEREA, Ohio — The Greetham Angle will do a position-by-position breakdown and analysis of the roster from 2023 and looking ahead to 2024. The Cleveland Browns will have some difficult decisions all across their roster this offseason.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a look at the roster by each position, the players that are still under contract, and the players who are set to become free agents. We’ll now take a look at the linebacker position:
Linebackers
Linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah had a breakout season and finished the season as the team’s leading tackler with 98 tackles. He also had 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, and six passes broken up in 16 games, as well as a number of tackles for loss.
Sione Takitaki returned from a torn ACL late in the 2022 season and played in 15 games, including seven starts, finishing third on the team in tackles with 64 tackles.
The Browns linebacker position was devastated by injury in more than any other position with injuries during the 2022 season, including five linebackers ending the season on injured reserve. In 2023, two linebackers finished the season on injured reserve, including captain Anthony Walker and fourth-year linebacker Jacob Phillips.
The Browns currently have five linebackers under contract in 2024 with five set to become free agents, including two of the three starters.
