Reports: Taylan May training with Hull KR youth team just hours after he was sacked by Penrith Panthers
In the early hours of this morning, Penrith Panthers confirmed that they had released outside back Taylan May, however, reports have now emerged that the 22-year-old is actually in England training with the Hull KR academy.
May’s sacking from the Panthers came after the winger / centre was charged on three counts of domestic violence and a further charge of stalking. He will face trial in Australia in March 2025.
It has been reported down under that three-time-consecutive champions Penrith had been trying to find a way to dismiss May following the allegations, however, The Daily Telegraph reported that the two parties had come to a “confidential settlement”.
Those reports that Taylan May is training in England with Hull KR in their youth setup have been reported by renowned NRL journalist The Mole. He had taken to social media to announce the news that had surprised plenty.
He posted: “BREAKING: Taylan May reportedly set to train with Hull KR youth team in Super League after parting ways with Penrith Panthers.”
Hull KR have an established youth team that has produced some of the club’s best talents, the best example being the club’s star player Mikey Lewis, but it seems the reports are unconfirmed by Hull KR themselves.
Of course, Taylan May has a connection with Hull KR as his brother Tyrone plays for the Robins and with the NRL’s ‘Stand down’ policy, Taylan is prohibited from any activity with NRL clubs which would rule him out of training with fellow sibling Terrell’s Sydney Roosters.
It is unclear if Taylan May would have been allowed to leave Australia considering that he has a court case upcoming next year but for now, that is what’s being reported and with the wording of Penrith’s statement outlining that the 22-year-old was “seeking other opportunities”, then it could be that Hull KR and a possible switch to Super League is what was meant.
Presently, Hull KR do not have a quota spot available should they want to sign him and they are also blessed in the centre positions with the likes of Peta Hiku, Oli Goldart, Jack Broadbent and Tom Opacic all firing.
