Ipswich Town ready to hijack John Lundstram talks at Rangers after Premier League development

Ipswich Town are preparing to hijack the signing of Rangers star John Lundstram after securing promotion to the Premier League on Saturday (4 May), according to The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported via its website [5 May] that Ipswich are ready to steal the signing of Lundstram, who is said to be in talks with Turkish side Trabzonspor ahead of next season.

The 30-year-old’s contract is set to expire at season’s end, and while Philippe Clement is keen to keep Lundstram at Ibrox, there are few signs of him extending his stay in Scotland.

Could John Lundstram leave Rangers this summer?

Lundstram appears to be edging closer and closer to a summer exit from Ibrox and Ipswich’s promotion to the Premier League is just one more reason for him not to extend his current contract.

Trabzonspor have also been linked with a move for his Rangers teammate Borna Barisic [Kuzey Anadolu], which could be key in persuading Lundstram to move to the Super Lig this summer.

The midfielder is one of the Gers’ most important assets and has impressed Clement since the Belgian was appointed manager in October, starting 30 of Rangers’ 33 Scottish Premiership matches before the league split.

Lundstram has the potential to lead Rangers to their second league title in the last decade, which would be a fitting end to his stay in Scotland, having arrived from Sheffield United in 2021.
