CONFIRMED DEAL: As reported by Sky Sports this afternoon, Hull City has formally canceled the fan-favorite player’s contract, which he signed this summer, just six months after it was signed.

Hull City poised to cut ties with January signing this summer

Hull City are ‘expected’ to offload Billy Sharp when his contract expires at the end of next month, as detailed in a report by HullLive.

Hull City swooped to land the striker this past winter to add more competition and depth to their options up top. The veteran spent time at LA Galaxy last year in MLS before penning a short-term deal at the MKM Stadium.

Sharp, 38, officially linked up with the Tigers in January on a free transfer and went on to make 13 appearances in all competitions under Liam Rosenior, 11 of which came in the Championship, but he didn’t score in the end for the East Yorkshire outfit.

Sharp’s move to Hull City didn’t really work out in the end and he wasn’t able to find the net.

Nevertheless, his experience will have come in handy in the dressing room and youngsters like Liam Delap and Noah Ohio will have learned from him.

The Sheffield-born man has played over 700 games in his career to date and has found the net on 273 appearances.

He is the leading scorer in second tier history with many of his goals coming at Sheffield United.

Sharp spent eight years with the Blades after re-joining them in 2015 and helped them rise from League One to the Premier League during his time at Bramall Lane.

He then left South Yorkshire last year and spent a few months in America where he chipped in with six goals for LA Galaxy.

The attacker has also had spells in the past at Doncaster Rovers, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Leeds United.

What next for Hull City?

Hull City need to find a new manager after sacking Liam Rosenior last week as they prepare for a busy few months ahead on the transfer front.

Sharp isn’t the only player due to see their deal run out soon, with Adama Traore, Greg Docherty and Cyrus Christie in the same boat.

Reducing the size of the squad will help free up space and funds for the Tigers’ next boss to bring in their own players ahead of the next campaign.
