Sunderland return would send ‘rockets flying’ as Black Cats still attractive job

Former Black Cats boss says the Stadium of Light hotseat remains an ‘attractive’ one for managers

As a former Sunderland manager, Simon Grayson has strong opinions about the club. The 54-year-old believes the job of head coach “is an attractive one” and he has touched on the possibility of Roy Keane being someone who would be an excellent candidate in taking on the challenge of trying to lead the Black Cats to the Premier League.

He also spoke of Jack Clarke moving to the top level and thinks he would make a massive impact at somewhere like Leeds United, another one of his former clubs.

“There would be rockets flying about if Roy Keane took over at Sunderland, that’s for sure,” Grayson told InstantCasinos.com. “I don’t know if he wants to get back into management as he’s a very good pundit, but he had a very good stint when he was there previously.

“Regardless of the names mentioned, it’s a very attractive job. Lots of managers will be wanting to take Sunderland back to the Premier League and one day I would expect them to get there soon. Who will get them up though? Only time will tell.

“I still think they have a strong chance of making the play-offs, only being a few points off but they need to strive for consistency as well as results. Going five or six games unbeaten with wins and a couple of draws really invigorates belief and will get the Stadium of Light rocking. Teams will then fear going there.”

The Black Cats will need Clarke back fit to stand any chance and Grayson said: “He has had an exceptional season but it will have to be a Premier League he leaves Sunderland for. Leeds were forced to sell him for financial reasons previously but he would be an incredible addition.
