Texas could sign the former Red Sox star soon

The Texas Rangers could end up signing a former member of the Boston Red Sox soon.

Former Red Sox All-Star J.D. Martinez still is looking for his next home in free agency. He was impressive with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season but is still looking elsewhere for his next opportunity because the club signed two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.

Martinez has been linked to multiple clubs but hasn’t signed yet due to a surprisingly slow free-agency period. The 36-year-old has plenty of pop left in his bat and one club that could end up signing him is the Texas Rangers, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

“Before the (San Francisco Giants) signed Jorge Soler, they made an offer to J.D. Martinez,” Heyman said. “Word is the ex-Dodger didn’t want to go there. The Rangers are a potential fit for Martinez.”

Martinez will be a solid addition to any team that ends up landing him. He earned his sixth All-Star nod last season as a member of the Dodgers and finished the season with 33 home runs, 27 doubles, and 103 RBIs in just 113 games played.
