Hull City have agreed a deal with Luton Town to sign Ryan Giles

Hull City have completed a deal to sign Luton Town defender Ryan Giles after agreeing a fee with their fellow Championship club. The 24-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the option of a further year.

Giles joined Hull City on a short-term deal in January from the Hatters, with a clause inserted into the loan agreement that City had an obligation to buy the player come the end of the season. That deal was thought to be pitched by Luton at around £4m, although neither club have revealed the fee which has been agreed.

The former Luton record-signing played 17 times for City following his January arrival as the Tigers narrowly missed out on a place in the top six. Despite Giles’ expected arrival on a permanent deal, Middlesbrough were said to be keeping a close eye on the situation, with the player having previously impressed Michael Carrick during his time on Teesside back in 2023.

While that may have been the case, Giles had spoken previously about his desire to stay at the MKM Stadium and will now report for pre-season training next week under new manager Tim Walter, as the German gets a first opportunity to assess his squad, with all the players starting from scratch as they bid to put their cause forward for a place in the team next season.

The news of Giles’ deal comes just hours after City confirmed the departure of Ozan Tufan, who has agreed a three-year contract with Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
