Friday Headlines: Caleb Wilson begins visit with Kentucky Basketball

Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope and his staff have had quite a bit of early with the 2025 recruiting class. The first-year coach has landed both Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno — both Kentucky natives, and each ranked inside the top 25.

This weekend, Pope and his staff are hosting Caleb Wilson — a 6’9 forward ranked No. 5 in the 2025 class. He’s slotted just behind AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Darryn Peterson & Nate Ament.

Wilson, a native of Atlanta, GA, has been sought after by most of the country’s “basketball” schools. The SEC schools interested in him are Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and Tennessee — all with offers on the table.

247 Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein had this to say about Wilson.

“Wilson has all the early characteristics of an ultra-versatile modern day forward. He has good positional size, solid length, mobility, good natural instincts, athleticism, and a rangy frame that he is still just starting to fill-out. Offensively, he has soft hands, including a very good left-hand, an early passing instinct, and plenty of raw tools to develop in the coming years, but is still

working to reliably extend his shooting range and consistently create his own shot. Defensively though, he shows significant early potential. He is already extremely switchable, has very high rates of both blocks and steals, and is also a consistently high-volume rebounder.”

This weekend is Kentucky’s shot to secure momentum with Wilson and increase their chances of adding him to their 2025 class. Wilson, a jumbo wing with loads of talent, would be a terrific fit alongside Johnson and Moreno.

Thursday Headlines: Malachi Moreno calls Jasper Johnson one of the best in the country

Kentucky Basketball’s 2025 recruiting class is off to a strong start, thanks to the commitment of two prospects from the Bluegrass state: Malachi Moreno and Jasper Johnson.

The two have been friends for many years, and are familiar with each other’s game. So, when Moreno was recently asked about what Johnson will bring to Kentucky, he had a simple answer.

“We know what he’s capable of, he’s one of the best players in the country,” Moreno told KSR. “I mean, he’s an all-out dog. That’s all I can say about him. He gets work done.”

Johnson is ranked as a top-15 prospect nationally and is widely viewed as one of the best shot-makers in the class. Playing in Mark Pope’s offense, Johnson will have plenty of opportunities to thrive.

Moreno and Jasper certainly have the ability to go down in history being some of the first commitments in the Pope era and being from Kentucky.
