Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Matt Turner discusses his transfer to Crystal Palace

Matt Turner says he “learned a lot of lessons” last season at Nottingham Forest, as he spoke for the first time about his transfer to Crystal Palace.

The American goalkeeper has exited the City Ground to join Premier League rivals Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

Turner started last season as Forest’s first choice goalkeeper, following his £10m signing from Arsenal in August 2023, but lost his place and Matz Sels became the club’s No.1 after joining at the end of the January transfer window.

Sels has also started this season as Nuno Espirito Santo’s first choice and Forest have also signed Brazilian stopper Carlos Miguel, who made his debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.

Speaking about his transfer, Turner said: “I’m really excited to be here (Palace). The last minutes of any deal get a little bit stressful, but it’s really good to be here now, and I’m just ready to get to work.

The Premier League is the best league in the world, so I really want to be here. I really want to challenge myself. I think I learned a lot of lessons, particularly last season.

“I learned what it takes to win in this league. The margins are very fine, and obviously I learned a lot of lessons while I was at Arsenal as well.

“For me, I’ve grown a lot as a player, a goalkeeper, a person, a father, a husband, and for me, I feel like I’m in a really good place to put my best foot forward and really hit the ground running.”
