Vic Fangio Reveals Why He Chose To Come To Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Eagles made the move to hire longtime defensive coordinator Vic Fangio for the same role.
Fangio spent 2023 as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator.
The Eagles decided to demote, then fire former defensive coordinator Sean Desai earlier this offseason.
For the first time, Fangio recently got a chance to speak with the Philadelphia media.
He finally got to reveal why he chose to come to Philadelphia after just one season in Miami.
“It was exactly 40 years ago when I started my pro coaching career across the street at Veterans Stadium, and I thought it’d be cool to hopefully end it here,” Fangio said, per NBC Sports Philadelphia
As he said, he started his pro coaching career with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL in 1984.
Ever since then, he has been coaching defense at the professional level.
He will be bringing a suffocating, tenacious approach to the defense in Philly.
Some of the notable players that he has coached include Khalil Mack, Jalen Ramsey, Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Von Miller, Roquan Smith, Terrell Suggs, and many others.
The Eagles have plenty of talent despite losing legendary defensive tackle Fletcher Cox.
There is still real talent on the defensive line with Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and recent acquisition Bryce Huff.
Linebackers Devin White, Nakobe Dean, and Nolan Smith will bring plenty of athleticism to Fangio’s scheme.
Veteran defensive backs Darius Slay Jr., Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, and James Bradberry will provide some savviness on the backend.
Fangio has everything he needs to build a Super Bowl defense.
