Former Alabama Crimson Tide QB drops eye-opening Kalen DeBoer national title take
Having Nick Saban as a predecessor is not the easiest thing in the world. Kalen DeBoer will now have to prove that he is worth the hype moving forward. He is going to try and lead the Alabama Crimson Tide to their former glory. There will definitely be a lot of ups and downs in this journey but the fun will be there. Some alums of the Alabama football program like Greg McElroy even posit that a College Football Playoff National Championship is already near.
You did not read that incorrectly. Greg McElroy predicted that despite just being months removed from the leadership of Nick Saban, the Alabama football squad has the capability to win it all. The former Crimson Tide signal-caller outlined the characteristics that make Kalen DeBoer the next head coach who can get their team an elusive 19th College Football Playoff National title, via Sam Gillenwater of On 3 Sports.
“He now takes over at a place that has 18 national championships claimed. I’m putting the percentage chance that he’ll win a natty at Alabama at 75%. I believe Kalen DeBoer will win a national championship at Alabama. I don’t think it’s going to take very long,” Greg McElroy proclaimed.
Furthermore, Kalen DeBoer was just in the national championship game against Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines this year. He led Michael Penix Jr. and the rest of the Washington Huskies into unexpected glory both. This was both in the College Football Playoff and the Pac-12 conference. All of this makes him a suitable replacement for Nick Saban.
“This guy, in his career, has only two losses against ranked opponents. Two – one was against Michigan and the other was when he was at Fresno State. He was undefeated at Washington against ranked opponents up until his final game as the Washington head coach. He can do more with less and he has proven that at both Fresno, at Washington,” he added about the Crimson Tide head honcho.
“He immediately steps into a roster that is deeper and probably a little bit more complete than the roster that he had at Washington. Now, I don’t think he has the weapons that he had at Washington. But I do think his personnel on the defensive side is drastically better at multiple spots,” he discussed.
It’s not just the trust of Saban’s former players that makes him unique. Other players see his championship pedigree shine through as well. This is why big-name transfers like Domani Jackson, Zabien Brown, Parker Brailsford, and Germie Bernard among others chose to join the Crimson Tide.
“The guy has won national championships before. Granted it was at the NAIA level but he knows, a little bit better than most, about what it’s going to take to compete in a three or four-game playoff to ultimately win a national championship,” he declared.
