Insider Reveals Surprising Najee Harris Decision By Steelers

One of the biggest issues for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2023 NFL season was the offense, which was unable to consistently put points on the scoreboard week after week.

Ultimately, the Steelers struggling as much as they did on that side of the football cost offensive coordinator Matt Canada his job and became a point of emphasis heading into the NFL offseason after a disappointing performance in the NFL playoffs.

As a result of the need to improve offensively, the Steelers made sure to take care of the quarterback position by trading Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, signing veteran Russell Wilson, and making a deal with the Chicago Bears for Justin Fields.

Along with making some major changes at quarterback, it appears the team wants star running back Najee Harris to prove his worth moving forward, with the team not picking up the fifth-year option on his contract, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

This is a bit of a strange move with Harris being incredibly consistent throughout his first three seasons with the team, as he has rushed for 1,000 yards or more in each of his first three years in Pittsburgh while also scoring seven or more rushing touchdowns in each of his three seasons.

Harris has also been remarkably durable during his time with the Steelers, playing in all 17 games in each season thus far, which really makes this move not to commit to him an interesting one, as he’s been solid since the team drafted him with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama.
