San Diego Padres Star Continues Astonishing Run During 2024 Season

San Diego Padres Right Fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. continued his torrid pace at the plate last night against the Oakland Athletics. He went 1-of-5 with a solo home run in San Diego’s 6-1 victory at home. Tatis Jr. has recorded a hit in 16 straight games dating back to May 25 against the New York Yankees. Over the last 16 games, Tatis Jr. is hitting .412 with five home runs and nine RBI. He has also gone deep in three of his last four games.

The hot streak by Tatis Jr. has not equated to wins on the diamond as the San Diego Padres are 8-8 over their last 16 games. Tatis Jr. is hitting .280 this season with 13 home runs and 35 RBI.

Tatis Jr. made his MLB debut in 2019 with the San Diego Padres. He is a one-time MLB All-Star(2021) and a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner(2020, 2021). He also won a Gold Glove and a Platinum Glove last season. Tatis Jr. finished third in National League MVP voting in 2021 and fourth in 2020. Bryce Harper was named NL MVP in 2021 and Freddie Freeman won the NL MVP in a pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign as a member of the Atlanta Braves.

Tatis Jr. missed the entirety of the 2022 season as he recovered from a fractured left wrist and was suspended 80 games after testing positive for a banned substance. He is a career .280 hitter with 119 home runs and 308 RBI.

San Diego(35-35) is second in the National League West and currently occupies the second of three National League Wild Card spots. The offense of the San Diego Padres has been very good this season. They are leading the league in batting average, 11th in home runs, and eighth in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Left Fielder Jurickson Profar. He is second in the league in batting average(.322) and ninth in OPS.

First Baseman Jake Cronenworth is 12th in the league with 45 RBI. He is on a hot streak of his own at the moment as he has homered in two of his last three games. He had four RBI in San Diego’s 13-1 win on Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
