Boston Bruins: Three keys to success for the 2019-20 season

Ottawa Senators sign forward Angus Crookshank to one-year contract extension

The Ottawa Senators have signed forward Angus Crookshank to a one-year, two-way contract extension, the club announced Wednesday evening.

Crookshank, 24, collected 24 goals and 46 points in 50 games with the AHL’s Belleville Senators during the 2023-24 regular season. He added a goal and an assist in seven games with Belleville in the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Additionally, Crookshank skated in his first 13 NHL games with Ottawa in 2023-24, recording his first two NHL goals and tacking on an assist to go along with four penalty minutes.

“Angus has established himself as a reliable point producer in Belleville,” Senators general manager Steve Staios said in a statement released on Wednesday. “He’s a strong competitor and a proven goal scorer who doesn’t back down, especially when it comes to getting to the opponent’s net. We’re pleased with his progress and expect further improvement from him next season.”

Crookshank’s new contract with the Senators carries a $775,000 cap hit in the NHL. The North Vancouver, BC product will be paid a $120,000 salary for the time he spends with Belleville.

The Senators originally selected Crookshank in the fifth round (No. 126 overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. The former member of the BCHL’s Langley Rivermen went on to play three seasons at the University of New Hampshire before signing his first pro deal with the Senators in 2021.

After a productive stint with Belleville to close out the 2020-21 season, Crookshank missed the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL sustained during Ottawa’s 2021 training camp. He returned to action in the 2022-23 season and has racked up 50 goals and 93 points in 121 games in the two years since.

Crookshank represented Belleville at the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose, California and was named the league’s player of the month for February 2024. He ranks second on Belleville’s all-time goal-scoring leaderboard, with 55, and is third in total points (109).
