Miami Marlins working on trade that would send 2B Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Miami Marlins are working on a trade that would send second baseman and reigning NL batting champion Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres.
The Marlins said Friday that the deal was pending a review of medical information before it could be finalized and formally announced.
Miami changed its lineup minutes before first pitch in Oakland, pulling the 27-year-old Arraez out of the leadoff spot.
Instead, he made his way through the visitor’s dugout at the Coliseum shaking hands and offering hugs and goodbyes with his now-former teammates, coaches and staff.
He should provide an instant spark to the Padres’ lineup. San Diego trails the first-place Dodgers in the talented NL West.
Arraez was hitting .299 with five RBIs and had scored 22 runs with a .347 on-base percentage over 16 games during Miami’s 9-24 start. A two-time All-Star, he also won an AL batting title for the Minnesota Twins in 2022 before they traded him to Miami for Pablo Lopez in January 2023.

Triple-A: Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies) 4, Norfolk Tides 3 – Game 1
Chayce McDermott’s day got off to a rough start as he allowed a lead-off home run and gave up two total runs in the top of the first inning. But he settled down a bit from there to go five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts. Jonathan Heasley was the only other Norfolk pitcher needed to complete the seven-inning game. He tossed two scoreless frames and struck out two. Heasley has now gone four straight appearances without allowing a run, a streak that has spanned 11.1 innings. His ERA with Norfolk is down to 0.60.

Heston Kjerstad and Daniel Johnson both hit home runs, their 11th and seventh of the season, respectively. Billy Cook added a pair of a singles and stolen base. Jackson Holliday and Coby Mayo both went hitless, although Mayo did work a walk.
Triple-A: Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies) 5, Norfolk Tides 3 – Game 2
Justin Armbruester fought through five innings as the starter in this one. In total he allowed three runs on five hits, a walk, and five strikeouts. His ERA at Norfolk dipped slightly to 8.80 as he continues to find his footing at the level. Dillon Tate tossed a scoreless inning in relief, but Kaleb Ort would not have the same luck. The righty coughed up two runs and was saddled with the loss.
The Norfolk offense was fortunate the score the three runs they did manage to put on the board. They went just 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position, and their lone extra-base hit was a double by Maverick Handley. Holliday, Mayo, and Kjerstad all went without a hit. Shayne Fontana had the best day of anyone, recording two hits and a stolen base.
