Stoke City in contract talks with young playmaker
Stoke City are in discussions with playmaker Jack Griffiths over a new deal, as detailed in a report by StokeOnTrentLive.
Stoke City are interested in keeping hold of the youngster for longer as they prepare for another year in the Championship. They finished in 17th place in the table last season and were six points above the drop zone in the end as Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City went down to League One.
Griffiths, 18, sees his current contract with the Potters expire at the end of this month and is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension. It remains to be seen whether he will be sticking around at the Bet365 Stadium and he has a big decision to make on what to do next.
As per StokeOnTrentLive, Steven Schumacher’s side are in ‘talks’ with the teenager over his situation. They have recently brought in Hull City’s head of recruitment Lee Darnbrough.
Stoke City contract talks
Griffiths has been on the books at Stoke City for his whole career to date.
He has risen up through the academy ranks of the Staffordshire outfit and has been a regular for them at various different youth levels so far.
The prospect can operate as a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder which make him a useful player in terms of versatility.
Griffiths has made the step up to the Under-21’s from the Under-18’s over recent times.
The England youth international has made 34 appearances for the development squad and has chipped in with eight goals and five assists.
What next for Stoke City?
Stoke City will be hoping that they can tie Griffiths down to some fresh terms ahead of next season as they look to integrate him into the first-team set-up down the line.
