Packers' Watson out Monday night against Giants with hamstring injuryLatest on Justin Jefferson injury after Vikings WR leaves game vs. 49ers

After he made an incredible play earlier in the matchup, star Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson unfortunately left Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers early due to a leg injury.

With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, Jefferson went down after he was hit in the leg by a 49ers defender. The All-Pro receiver was then helped off the field by Minnesota’s training staff, and he eventually walked back to the team’s locker room for more testing.

Shortly after he headed to the locker room, the Vikings revealed that he exited the contest with a quad injury. Hopefully, for the sake of Minnesota’s season, his injury doesn’t end up being anything serious.

The Vikings and their fans are hoping for the best when it comes to the latest injury to the team’s top wide receiver.

It seems important to note that Jefferson was able to walk back to the locker room on his own and not with the help of a cart. If his quad injury was believed to be torn or strained, he likely wouldn’t have been able to walk off the field on his own.

Update: After the game, Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed that Jefferson suffered a quad contusion on Sunday, and they’re currently listing him as day-to-day.

It sounds like Jefferson might have a chance to play next Sunday, which is great considering how some Vikings fans likely felt after seeing the receiver leave the 49ers game early with an injury.

If we’re going to crown him, we should crown him right? That’s what Denny Green told us to do. And after Sam Darnold led the Minnesota Vikings to a convincing victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, to move his record as our starting QB 2-0, the same as his new team’s 2024 record.

It’s a long season, and the Vikings bridge QB1 still has a lot to improve on. Nobody will point that out faster than Sam, himself. But let’s be honest, Darnold’s first two games in purple could not have gone any better.

I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but if someone from the future had told me, back in July, that the Vikings were going to start the season 2-0 and Sam Darnold would be 36-of-50 (72%) for 476 yards, 4 TD and 2 INT… I would have called you a phony.

Then, just in case, I would have placed a couple of Vikings-friendly sports wagers somewhere. But that’s not the point. Nobody believed in Sam Darnold, for years. That remained true this offseason, when Minnesota signed the USC legend, all the way up until kickoff vs the Niners on Sunday.

Kevin O’Connell gets emotional when asked about Sam Darnold

Well, almost nobody. Kevin O’Connell believed in Sam Darnold. That’s why he is in Minnesota. Of all the available bridge quarterbacks this offseason, the Vikings head coach targeted the 27-year-old former No. 3 overall pick, turned free agent.
