Regis Le Bris is now close to sending ‘amazing’ Sunderland gem out on loan

Sunderland are close to sealing their second loan exit of the summer.

After a number of players left upon the expiry of their contracts last month, Nathan Bishop went onto join Wycombe Wanderers on loan.

Sunderland are likely to send out a number of players this summer due to the long list of youngsters in the ranks.

While it remains to be seen where the likes of Jewison Bennette and Luis Hemir will be next season, a deal for one of their academy stars to join a League Two club is now ‘advancing quite quickly’.

Journalist Michael Graham reported over the weekend that Matty Young was a target for Salford City, having impressed in his brief loan spell at Darlington last term.

The ‘amazing’ goalkeeper was named as Darlington’s Young Player of the Year after keeping five clean sheets in 14 appearances in the National League North.

Sunderland goalkeeper is on his way out this week

Graham previously claimed that Salford were joined by a number of clubs in the race for Young’s signature, but he has now claimed that a move to the Peninsula Stadium is close.

He wrote on X: “Sounding like this one is advancing quite quickly this week.”

Young and Bishop are unlikely to be the only goalkeepers leaving the Stadium of Light this summer, with James Copley previously reporting that youngsters Dan Cameron and Adam Richardson could also leave on loan.

This could pave the way for the arrival of Blondy Nna Noukeu, who featured in the friendly against South Shields as a trialist.

Sunderland have already brought in Simon Moore but are still eager to bolster their goalkeeping department.

Can Matty Young replace Anthony Patterson?

Another loan move could be really promising for Young, having earned himself a jump up by two divisions after his spell at Darlo.

If he can impress in Greater Manchester then it could give the club great hope that he can become Anthony Patterson’s long-term successor.

It looks unlikely that Patterson will leave Wearside this summer, but if he keeps improving then we could see him move to a top flight club in years to come and Young will be desperate to prevent Sunderland from dipping into the transfer market for his replacement.

The Black Cats have a history of producing top quality goalies and it will go down as a credit to the academy if Young can become another star.
